Fleece Show

Superintendent:  Nard Mullan, Executive Show Services

JUDGE:  Cheryl Gehly

Entry Information & Rules

This show is certified by AOBA and all rules and guidelines will be in accordance with AOBA show rules.  All Exhibitors are responsible for reviewing the current AOBA Show Division Handbook.
    • Entry fee per fleece is $30 and includes the AOBA fee of $6 per fleece.  The Fleece Show Entry Form and ARI certificates(s) must be postmarked on or before March 1, 2008.
    • There is a limit of three entries per breed type, per age division, per color designation, according to the 2008 AOBA Show Division Handbook.
    • Fleeces that were shorn before March 20, 2007 may not be shown.
    • All alpacas with fleeces entered in the fleece show must be registered with the Alpaca Registry by March 1, 2008 (the Alpacapalooza registration deadline). All alpacas must be entered in the name of the owner as listed on the ARI Registration Certificate.  Animals that are in the process of being purchased, or certificates that have not been transferred, must have a Buyer’s Permission to Show Form (download at www.alpacashows.com), signed by the owner that is listed on the ARI Registration Certificate.  A copy of the ARI Registration Certificate must accompany all entries.
    • Bags shall bear no identifying marks.  Huacaya fleeces shall be bagged cut-side out.  Suri fleeces shall be bagged tip-side out.  Fleece Superintendent will have the option to change the bag.
    • To determine the correct color, compare the cut end of a fleece lock to the ARI Color Chart.  If the color falls between two colors on the chart, the darker color is the correct color.  DO NOT rely on the color designation on the ARI Certificate.
    • Direct questions to Nard Mullan, Fleece Superintendent, 360-458-3359.
    • Check-in and Check-out: Fleece check-in time is Thursday afternoon from 1 PM to 7 PM.  If not attending Alpacapalooza, fleeces may be mailed (see below).  Each fleece will have a claim check that must be presented to receive the fleece back.  Fleeces will be judged on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning and remain on display in the fleece show area until 2 PM on Sunday, at which time the fleeces may be claimed and sold by private treaty if desired by the fleece owner.  Fleece Awards will be presented in the halter show ring at approximately 11 AM on Sunday.
    • The judge shall disqualify a fleece that exhibits parasitic infestation, does not meet the 3” minimum, or exceeds maximum length of 8” for Huacaya (for 1st birthday and older) or 9” for Suri (for 2nd birthday and older).  The reason for disqualification shall be recorded on the scorecard and the judge’s worksheet.
    • Special ribbons will be awarded for Best Prepared, Best Crimp/Lock, Best Luster/Brightness, and Judge’s Choice.
    • MAIL-IN Fleeces will be accepted.  Send to: Pam Wilmot, Heart of Dreams Alpacas, 18833  296th Pl. NE, Duvall, WA  98019 to arrive between March 19 and March 26, 2008.  Mail-in fleece entries MUST be accompanied by a pre-paid, self-addressed, return label from either UPS or FedEx and will be returned in the same box sent.  We will be UNABLE to return ribbons & fleece without this label, and those fleeces will be donated.  We will take care of your fleeces within reason, but we are not responsible for loss or damage.

NOTE: Please be sure to include the requred forms with your entries. The DISCLOSURE FORM and the FLEECE SHOW ENTRY TAG are required for exhibitors.

For all forms including entry and donation forms please visit the Forms Section of this website.
